What:

Good day Algoma Chapter membersJ  We will be holding our Annual General Meeting describing the activities of the past year, exciting initiatives of the OWA provincially and plans for the future.

Following the business part of the meeting, at approximately 11 am we will have Art Groot (retired from Canadian Forest Service, volunteer with Forest History Ontario) speak to us about some local logging history. His presentation will be The North Shore of Lake Huron: Ontario’s Last Great White Pine Lumbering Area. Art will speak to large-scale lumbering of white pine on the remote north shore of Lake Huron which began in the 1880s, decades after the start of logging in the Ottawa Valley. This presentation will offer a tour of the sawmills and communities that emerged between Spanish and Sault Ste. Marie and then faded as the pine was depleted by logging and fire.

We will be serving a complementary lunch following Art’s presentation and look forward to members having the opportunity to catchup with each other.

Following lunch, we’ll leave as a group for a tour of the local Araucomill. Arauco is a global manufacturer of forest products and offers the industry’s most comprehensive selection of composite panels. At the Sault mill they produce Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) and Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL).
