Woodland Tour
Niagara Woodlot Association welcomes you to come for maybe your last autumn woodland walk, as winter doesn’t technically start until December 22. J
Sunday December 18th at 1:00 PM we will tour two of Walker Industries’ Woodlots located at their Vineland Quarries operations just south of Vineland.
Parking will be available on the street across from 3870 Tintern Road (North of Moyer Road), click here for the exact location.
The walk and tour will start at the VQ Dyck woodlot off of Tintern Road and travel east on a 30 minute hike along a relatively flat and well-managed trail to the corner of Cherry Ave and Moyer Rd.
The energetic hikers can cross the road & enjoy the more hilly trail system through the VQ’s Sugar Bush. The Sugar Bush’s trail is a big circle & would add another 45 minutes to the hike. The history of the property along with the present forest management practices of the property will be led by Paul Robertson, Trees Unlimited.
Both woodlots have been actively managed for more than 30 years & have been marked for a moderate sawlog & light firewood harvest. The woodlots are a fine example of mature upland hardwoods which are both environmentally and financially significant.
Regretfully, no washrooms or food will be provided so please come prepared and dress appropriately for the weather. If inclement weather is forecasted, an email will be sent out no later than 10:00 AM to let everyone know of the cancellation.
