Limestone Chapter has been active in the two counties of Frontenac and Lennox and Addington since 1993. Our main focus is forest education, and we carry this out in several ways.
Our February evening “Winter Woods Talk” presents a topic of interest to woodlot owners and creates opportunity for discussion and sharing of experiences.
Our “Spring Woods Walk” (as part of our Annual General Meeting), and our;
“Fall Family Forest Field Day” in early October are two great excuses to get out in the woods.
While Limestone is working to make all outdoor events as child-friendly as possible (with scavenger hunts, etc), we have one afternoon that is designed specifically for ages 7 to 12. “Kids in the Woods” introduces these “future stewards” to the wonder of trees and the importance of forests, and includes having them make something out of wood to take home.
Limestone Chapter encourages ‘citizen science” by conducting a species inventory at each of our outdoor events, and by assisting landowners who wish to be part of our “Permanent Plot Project”, a long term initiative that measures the evolution of our forests over the years.
Each fall, we also hold an “Introduction to Chainsaw Safety Workshop”. With a 50% discount for OWA members, this workshop alone is reason enough to become a member!
Limestone and its sister, Quinte Chapter, are lead organizers of the annual “Trenton Woodlot Conference” in November, the flagship forest event in this region.
Check our latest newsletter, “The Limestone Quinte News”, for details on upcoming events in our region. If you would like to receive our newsletter automatically, contact us at owalimestone@gmail.com. We’d be happy to keep you in the loop!
Limestone Chapter is always looking for new ideas, and would love to hear from you. Plan to come out and get involved!
