Protecting What Sustains Us: Black Ash, Emerald Ash Borer, & Seed Conservation (13 Aug 2026)

Join the Invasive Species Centre, Northumberland Land Trust and Kawartha Land Trust for a free half-day workshop at the Goodrich-Loomis Conservation Centre in Brighton. Learn about the Black Ash Community Action Network (BACAN), emerald ash borer impacts, Indigenous perspectives, and seed collection. A field component at the Wilkinson Nature Reserve will cover locating, identifying and collecting seed from black ash.

ISA credential holders receive 4 CEUs for attending this workshop.

Light breakfast refreshments and lunch are provided.

FALL FIELD DAY

Tentatively set for Saturday September 26 (confirmations will be sent out in August).

Ruth Henderson has offered her property in Oro-Medonte as a possible site to visit. She and her partner have been actively managing their property and can share some experiences and insights.

Also (tentatively) will be a demonstration about bio-char production. This is a newer method that is gaining popularity amongst woodlot managers as brush and limbs too small for firewood can be converted to “black gold” as charcoal fertilizer.

Register for the 2026 CIF-IFC National Conference and 118th Annual General Meeting (AGM) taking place from September 27-29, 2026, at the Edmonton Convention Centre, located in Edmonton, Alberta!

Hosted in collaboration with the CIF-IFC Rocky Mountain Section, this year’s Conference is guided by the theme “Leading from Where We Are for a Brighter Future,” and recognizes that leadership exists at every level, whether in the field, the classroom, the lab, the boardroom, or the community. The Conference is designed to meet participants where they are today, while helping them grow toward what’s next.

Through in-conference tours, place-based learning opportunities, student and early-career programming, and sessions focused on emerging technologies and innovation, #2026CIF creates space for learning that is grounded in both practice and place.

This year’s Conference takes place in a region shaped by Indigenous Peoples whose knowledge, stewardship, and deep connection to the land span thousands of years. This setting provides an opportunity to support meaningful dialogue between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, reflecting #2026CIF’s commitment to collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and respectful engagement.

Throughout the Conference, there will also be a variety of social events and networking opportunities, including the National Awards Ceremony, Student Quiz Bowl, Poster Symposium, evening social event, and a Silent Auction to benefit Forests without Borders.

Mark Your Calendars for the upcoming Ontario Forest Health Review.

This annual event brings together forest resource managers, foresters, ecologists, conservation authorities, pest management companies, academics, municipalities, and others interested in forest resource management.  

Covering important topics about the current state of Ontario's forests, the event highlights the latest information on forest health conditions, forest invasive pests, current and upcoming forest pest management programs, and recent advancements in research.  

The Ontario Forest Health Review returns this year to celebrate its 50th year through partnership with Natural Resources Canada, Ministry of Natural Resources, Invasive Species Centre, and Forests Canada.

To celebrate the Forest Health Review’s 50th anniversary, we’ve put together a special two-day agenda.

*Please note participation in the field tour is reserved for those also attending Wednesday’s meeting. There isn’t an option to attend the field tour only.

Registration cost: Free. There is a capacity of 150 for the event. A wait list will be in effect once capacity is reached.
