Seed Collection Workshop
The Quinte OWA is hosting a hands-on event presented by Certified Seed Collector and Arborist Jordon Rolph that will give you a taste of what it’s like to be a seed collector, and introduce you to this fun and rewarding activity you can enjoy in your woodlot. The event may even inspire you to go further with certification as a tree seed collector, for a chance to earn money on the land.
The Ontario Forest Gene Conservation Association sets the high standards for Seed Collection. However, they are taking a training break until 2026. Quinte chapter is offering this one-day workshop to get you started on the right track with this rewarding woodland activity, taking advantage of the fall seed bounty, and piquing your interest in pursuing certification in 2026.
It is a day-long workshop where you will learn practical skills that will help you become comfortable identifying species of trees and their suitability as a seed source, how to collect seed for sale or donation to nurseries, forecasting when seeds will be ready to harvest, making seed cuttings to determine viability and how handle your seeds.
Date & Time: The day-long workshop is to be held September 21, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.
Location: O’Hara Mill in Centre Hastings- https://www.oharamill.ca/directions. Cost: $40 and, $95 for non-members (includes one year OWA Electronic membership).
Bring a bagged lunch, chair, paper and pen and appropriate clothing/shoes to walk in the woods.
