Webinar: Innovation with Wood and Biomass

Join the OWA on Wednesday, May 15th at 12:00 p.m. EDT during the 5th Annual Woodlands Appreciation Week for a lunch and learn webinar about innovation with wood and biomass.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Anne Koven, Director of the Mass Timber Institute who will discuss the growth and opportunities of mass timber buildings and engineered wood. Elliott Groen, OWA/Kawartha Land Trust, Sustainable Forestry Coordinator will give an overview of the OWA community forest owner's cooperative which has been assisting woodlot owners with silvicultural thinnings of plantations that are overdue for active management. Through this project we have sourced red pine wood to test its specifications and applicability to cross laminated timber construction in collaboration with U of T's Mass Timber Institute. Glen Prevost, R.P.F., OWA Program Manager will provide a case study of an engineered wood bridge and review the main engineered wood products. At the end of the three talks there will be time for a Q and A.
