ALUS 101

Organized by: ALUS

With two successful pilot projects in Niagara and continuously growing interest from your region, we would like to invite you to join us for an ALUS 101 meeting for interested farmers and other stakeholders taking place virtually, on Tuesday, February 13th, from 7:00pm-8:30pm. At this meeting we will discuss the ins and outs of running an ALUS program and hope to learn more from you about your environmental priorities, the farming landscape in Niagara,  and how you see ALUS fitting with your community. We anticipate a lively discussion!

ALUS has a long history of supporting farmers and ranchers who produce cleaner air, cleaner water, wildlife habitat and other ecosystem goods and services on their farms to benefit all Canadians. The ALUS program is a scalable, turn-key solution delivered at the community level that engages farmers in creating, restoring and enhancing new acres of nature to respond to local environmental challenges, build community resilience and fight climate change and biodiversity loss.

In communities with active ALUS programs, farmers and ranchers implement projects on marginal and environmentally sensitive agricultural lands which enhance the ecosystem services those lands provide (clean air, clean water, pollinator habitat, etc.).  Enhancements may include wetland improvements, erosion control, offsite watering systems and fencing off sensitive riparian areas from cattle, seeding native grasses, creating pollinator habitat, building eco-buffers, etc. The ALUS program helps to cost-share the cost of establishment for those projects and provides an annual payment over a contract term for the management and maintenance of the project for continued production of ecosystem services.

Registration: Please register through the OWA website to receive a link to join the meeting. Please note that this event is organized and run by ALUS.
