Woodlot Tour with Norfolk Woodlot Owners Association

The Norfolk Woodlot Owners Association invites you to join us on a woodlot tour Saturday, November 4th from 9:30 am to noon.

During the tour we will visit two unique properties: Anne and Dolf Wynia’s “Woodwinds Farm”, a former tobacco farm planted with a diversity of trees from 2005 onward; and the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC) Central Big Creek Block forest restoration property.

On the tour you will learn about the different approaches to forest management and restoration on these neighbouring properties. Dolf will lead us on a tour of Woodwind Farms, where we will walk through and learn about the plantations of tamarack, spruce, white pine, chestnut, etc. From there we will take a short hike to the NCC property next door where Conservation Biologist, Liv Monck-Whipp, will talk about the plantation management planned for this coming winter, and the recent seeding of the fields to native trees, grasses, flowers, and shrubs.

Where: 1431 West Quarter Line Road, Walsingham

When: 9:30 am – noon

Attire: This event is rain or shine, so please dress appropriately and wear sturdy hiking boots. There will be some steep sections along the hike as well as rough trails.
