Seed Collection Workshop
Registration is closed
Seed is where the forest starts and is critical to any afforestation project. We need a steady source of seeds from a diverse range of seed zones to make sure Ontario’s forests are healthy long into the future.
The Kawartha OWA is hosting a hands-on event presented by the Forest Gene Conservation Association (FGCA) that will give you a taste of what it is like to be a seed collector and introduce you to this fun and rewarding hobby you can do in your woodlot.
This event is a modified version of the FGCA’s full seed certification course. It is a day-long workshop where you will learn practical skills that will help you become comfortable identifying species of trees and their suitability as a seed source, forecasting when seeds will be ready to harvest, and how to properly collect and handle your bounty so that it makes it to the grower in top shape.
Date & Time: The day-long workshop is to be held rain or shine Sept 16, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.
Location: 683 Lifford Road, Bethany, ON
Cost: $125 and this includes a handy field reference guide ($52.50 value) for OWA members, $150 for non-members.
Bring a bagged lunch, chair, paper and pen and appropriate clothing/shoes to walk in the woods.
Registration: Contact Glen Hannah at glen.hannah@gmail.com with your intent to register for the course. If there is space available, you will receive additional instructions to complete the payment for your registration online.
