Welcome to our chapter page! The SD&G Chapter area falls within the boundaries of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (330,646 ha) and is almost equally split by the jurisdictional watersheds of the South Nation Conservation and Raisin Region Conservation Authorities. The City of Cornwall (6,125 ha) is also part of the Chapter area. Following the closure of the Domtar Inc. pulp and paper mill in spring 2005, members of the SD&G. Resource Stewardship Council (RSC) worked to establish the SD&G Certified Forest Owners Inc. (CFO). The CFO joined the OWA in 2014. The Chapter has now grown to over 80 members and with a forest ownership of approximately 1,800 ha. Chapter goal: to develop a woodlot owners group focusing on advancing sustainable woodlot management through the protection, restoration and enhancement of forest cover. The Chapter works with many partners and sits on various committees focusing on local forest concerns. Projects that the Chapter has participated in have included the calculation of forest cover loss, was a member of the Forest Conservation Working Group and held a forest forum bringing together both the agricultural and forest communities to discuss solutions to forest loss. The Chapter was a major participant in three area forest themed events, the Glengarry Wood Fair and Wood Auction, Riceville Wood and Forest Exhibition and the Kemptville Winter Woodlot Conference. Most recently the Chapter held a woodlot tour, began producing a newsletter and, most recently, signed an agreement with South Nation Conservation and the United Counties of SD&G to manage a small, forested property located near Finch. Development of an interpretive trail has begun with the intent of using the property for tours and workshops for Chapter members and the public |
